Contractor Pain Points: The Greatest Hits

After a long-term full-time client servicing, I've compiled a "greatest hits" album of contractor pain points. Most of them are real-life experiences of my clients and myself. Here's a taste of what you might encounter:

  1. Not Showing Up: It's like planning a surprise party where the guest of honor decides not to show.
  2. Not Being on Time: Some contractors operate in their own time zone, aptly named "Late Standard Time."
  3. Poor Project Management: They couldn’t organize a one-car parade, let alone a project timeline.
  4. Inability to Manage Budget: Their budget management style is akin to a toddler running a candy store.
  5. Poor Communication: Expecting timely updates from them is like trying to get a text back from your crush—it’s not happening.
  6. Quality of Work: Sometimes the quality is so poor, you'd think they were building a sandcastle for it to last a day.
  7. Lack of Professionalism: They bring all the professionalism of a cat on a hot tin roof.
  8. Incomplete Work: Some projects are left so unfinished, archaeologists might find them intriguing.
  9. Lack of Transparency: Trying to get a straight answer out of them is like playing blindfolded darts.
  10. Inconsistent Availability: They're about as available as a popular book at a library sale.
  11. Misunderstanding Scope of Work: They often miss the project scope so wide, it could be considered an art form.
  12. Contractual Disputes: Their favorite hobby? Arguing over contract terms. Or, you might not have a contract to start with.
  13. Safety Concerns: Safety protocols are treated like diet recommendations—more guidelines than actual rules.
  14. Improper Resource Management: They manage resources with the finesse of a bull in a china shop.
  15. Failure to Adapt: Adapting to change with the grace of a giraffe on roller skates.
  16. Lack of Accountability: Passing the buck is their version of Olympic sport.
  17. Overdependence on Subcontractors: They rely on subcontractors like a soap opera relies on amnesia plots.
  18. Cultural Misalignment: Sometimes it feels like they're from Mars and you're from Venus.
  19. Skills Mismatch: The contractor's skills might not match the project's needs, like bringing a snorkel to a ski resort.
  20. Regulatory Non-compliance: Following regulations as closely as a rebellious teenager follows curfew. (e.g. what is a permit?)
